Decatur city election 2009 in DeKalb County, Georgia - Offices and Incumbents

A detailed follow-up to my entry on district-specific elected offices, this post offers a table of those offices for which DeKalb County residents will be voting in the 2009 City of Decatur election.

These offices serve staggered 4-year terms and are non-partisan.  I believe that means no primaries, only the general election on November 3rd (for which one needs to be registered before October 5th).

Offices for election in 2009

DUTIES of Decatur city commissioners:

• appoint the members of a number of boards and commissions (including the Decatur Housing Authority, Zoning Board of Appeals, Decatur Parking Authority, Downtown Development Authority, Planning Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Greenspace Commission and Waste Management Advisory Board)
• appoint Municipal Court Judges and the City Attorney
• appoint the City Manager
• determine the policies of the City and enact the local laws necessary for the protection of the public health, safety, and welfare
• provide leadership in identifying community needs and developing programs to meet community objectives
• oversee the delivery of services to citizens
• adopt an annual budget
• levy taxes necessary to finance local government operations
